Why assume that “reality” was not meant? If the idea was to be critical of those overly devoted to the conventional wisdom, why not taunt them with the words “conventional wisdom.” I’ve a friend I sometimes taunt by accussing him of being “too CT.” If the Bush administration feels the need to rebel against the CT, which could be a healthy thing, why would they not say so?

Anyway, reread the quote. It doesn’t lend itself to your interpretation.

I take exception to Will Wilkinson’s rip from Marx’s headstone at Highgate. Marx was asserting that he wanted those who understood his work to use it to remake the world, rather than take it as some set of ahistorical dogmas(dogmae?).

Marx never had a “faith-based initiative”, but rather said “the truth is concrete”.
