You're probably right, but the ungenerous interpretation is just too funny.

Why assume that "reality" was not meant? If the idea was to be critical of those overly devoted to the conventional wisdom, why not taunt them with the words "conventional wisdom." I've a friend I sometimes taunt by accussing him of being "too CT." If the Bush administration feels the need to rebel against the CT, which could be a healthy thing, why would they not say so?

Anyway, reread the quote. It doesn't lend itself to your interpretation.

I take exception to Will Wilkinson's rip from Marx's headstone at Highgate. Marx was asserting that he wanted those who understood his work to use it to remake the world, rather than take it as some set of ahistorical dogmas(dogmae?).

Marx never had a "faith-based initiative", but rather said "the truth is concrete".

The reality-based community

The reassurance of a like mind. Wil Wilkinson expresses more clearly what I was thinking in the useful philosophical shorthand that I still haven't internalized.

A False Reality

A couple of weeks ago, I tried to imagine myself (unsuccessfully) into the mind of a Bush voter. I realize that someone who holds to the religious belief that abortion is murder is unlikely to vote for a pro-choice candidate. I also realize (though not...
